Metabolic Syndrome 이란

대사증후군(Metabolic Syndrome)이란 혈압상승, 고혈당, 혈중지질이상, 비만(특히, 복부비만) 등 심뇌혈관질환 및 당뇨병의 위험을 높이는 위험인자가 겹쳐 있는 상태를 가리킵니다. 대사증후군은 당뇨병, 고혈압, 만성콩팥병, 심뇌혈관질환 발생 위험도를 높이며, 유방암, 직장암 등 각종 암 발생 및 사망률과도 관계가 있습니다. 대사증후군은 단일한 질병이 아니며, 유전적 소인과 환경적 인자가 더해져 발생하는 포괄적 질병입니다. 호르몬 및 사이토카인과 같은 많은 대사 바이오마커의 복잡한 상호 작용과 관련이 있음이 분명하며 그 메커니즘을 이해하기 위해 대사 바이오마커 연구가 필요합니다.
